Founded in 2003, Kou Chou Ching has entered its 6th year. Kou Chou Ching’s work has been included in many compilation albums, from the self-published EP “FuKe” to the first official album “Kou!! It’s Coming Out!!!” with a stunning album cover designed by the three-time Grammy Award nominee Qing-Yang Xiao. This album has received considerable acclaims by its audience & critics. The most prominent indie paper in Taiwan - Pots - raved by claiming “Kou!! It’s Coming Out!!!” “The Most Important Hip-Hop Album of Taiwan.” In 2008, Kou Chou Ching was nominated “Best Band of The Year” and “Best Taiwanese Album of The Year” in the 19th Golden Melody Award.
By mixing the old with the new, Kou Chou Ching has contributed in the revival of Taiwanese traditional culture. Kou Chou Ching has been mixing traditional Nan-Guan, Taiwanese Recital Chants, Taiwanese opera, Hakka Eight Notes, Taiwanese and aboriginal songs with Hip-Hop, Reggae and other popular music styles, recreating a new genre that is rich in Taiwanese consciousness and culture.
Unlike most pop songs where the subject matter is often limited, Kou Chou Ching has been pushing its limit, including specific social issues in its lyrics.
Like a can of fish that has a shelf life, Kou Chou Ching wish these social issues will disappear in time and see the society evolve. Unfortunately some of the issues kept repeating themselves in this society. It is Kou Chou Ching’s wish that citizens of Taiwan work together to make Taiwan a better place...
